Experienced and skilled specialist
I have worked at Helsinki University Hospital for over 20 years, including as Chief Physician at the Ear, Nose, and Throat outpatient clinic. During my career, I have not only treated thousands of ENT patients but also trained medical students and residents, conducted and supervised research in my field, and produced extensive educational material for both doctors and patients.
I have a particular focus on the diagnosis and treatment of ENT emergencies, like infections and injuries. Chronic illnesses of the nose, sinuses, and tonsils are within my area of expertise as well.
Crafts was my favorite subject in elementary school, and I still enjoy working with my hands. Whether an ear tube insertion, tonsillectomy, wax or skin lesion removal, or complex sinus surgery, I appreciate the opportunity to combine academic knowledge with precise manual skills. I have received excellent feedback, especially for my gentle sinus punctures, nasal bleed treatments, and earwax removals. Scientific Work and Other Publications
I completed my doctoral dissertation on the diagnosis of sinus infections and ear infections in children. Throughout my career, I have sought to thoroughly comprehend the causes and backgrounds of the diseases I treat. In my research, I have always focused on diseases that I see and treat in practice. A deep understanding of etiology, risk factors, and prognosis ensures an accurate diagnosis and up-to-date, safe treatment for the patient.
I have supervised doctoral dissertations on topics like the diagnosis of throat infections, ENT problems in athletes, dental-related sinus infections, factors contributing to medical errors, and new treatment methods for nasal congestion. My expertise is appreciated in the scientific community: I have served as a reviewer for several theses, acted as an opponent, and evaluated treatment guidelines for the national clinical guidelines.
I maintain my professional skills by attending domestic and international medical congresses. I am pursuing a specialist qualification in sleep medicine, so you can also consult me on sleep-related issues.
I am skilled at simplifying and explaining complex topics, through both writing and speech. I am one of two editors in a popular textbook for ENT emergencies. I have also written dozens of chapters for the “Doctor’s Handbook” and the Duodecim Health Library.
What Happens at My Office?
I aim to make an accurate diagnosis by listening to the patient and examining them carefully and thoroughly. I always examine ears utilizing a microscope. My office, additionally, has the necessary endoscopes for a more comprehensive examination of the larynx, vocal cords, and nose, which I use as needed. Most issues are resolved at the office, but any additional tests needed are arranged quickly, ensuring rapid treatment. Based on the patient’s condition and preferences, I can also provide referrals for public health care.
At the core of all my experience and expertise is the goal of excellent patient care. Even the most extensive theoretical knowledge is worthless if it does not benefit the patient. I believe the most satisfactory outcomes are achieved through cooperation between the patient and the doctor, with direct and friendly communication.
